Mental
Health Association in New York State
(MHANYS) Names New CEO
The
Board of Directors of the Mental Health Association in New York State,
Inc. (MHANYS) is pleased to announce the selection of Mr. Glenn Liebman
as the Chief Executive Officer of MHANYS. He has worked as a senior administrator
in the health and mental health community for the past twelve years.
MHANYS
is a voluntary not-for-profit statewide association with 32 local affiliates
in communities throughout New York State dedicated to promoting mental
health and recovery by encouraging consumer empowerment, overcoming discrimination,
and raising public awareness through education, advocacy, and public information.
The mission of MHANYS is to ensure that the public mental health policy
is fair, just, and promotes equality and opportunity. MHANYS brings together
service recipients, families, professionals, advocates, and concerned
citizens to address all aspects of mental health and mental illness.
Liebman
commented, “I am very appreciative of the MHANYS Board of Directors
for giving me the opportunity to become Director of the organization.
Over the last decade, I have worked both as a mental health advocate and
in various policy positions in state government. During that time, I have
worked very closely with many of the members of MHANYS and have always
had great respect for the values and goals of the organization. I very
much look forward to the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in
improving the lives of recipients of mental health services.”
Most
recently, Liebman was the director of the Adult Home Initiative in the
New York State Department of Health.
Prior
to that, he was the first Program Director for Kendra’s Law at the
New York State Office of Mental Health.
From
1994 – 1998, Liebman served as the Director of the National Alliance
for the Mentally Ill New York State, the largest family based mental health
organization in New York State.
Richard
Dowhy, MHANYS Board Chair, was pleased with the selection, saying, “The
Board is delighted by the selection of Glenn. It is our belief that Glenn
will serve as an ardent supporter of our Mission. Under Glenn’s
leadership, we are confident that the organization will take on a new
level of transparency.”
In
addition to his work to improve the mental health system, Liebman has
authored several sports humor books. He lives with his wife and son in
Guilderland.
MHANYS’
administrative offices are located at 194 Washington Avenue in Albany.
Until
next time, we remain,
Working to ensure available and accessible
mental health services for all New Yorkers
