SPECIAL EDITION

Timothy’s Law Update

A number of very exciting developments have occurred today regarding the ongoing effort to pass Timothy’s Law for mental health and chemical dependency parity.

  1. Timothy’s Law has been introduced by Senator Thomas Libous (Binghamton) in conjunction with 32 other Republican Majority Senators. The bill is the ‘same as’ Assemblyman Paul Tonko’s bill. Now, Timothy’s Law can be referred to by its bill numbers, S.5329/A.8301.

  2. Tom O’Clair, Timothy’s father will appear on The O’Reilly Factor this evening on the Fox News Network. The show will be broadcast at both 8 and 11 PM, tonight.

  3. NBC’s The Today Show has expressed interest in having the O’Clairs on sometime next week. For details as they become available, please check http://www.timothyslaw.org/.

Passage of Timothy’s Law in the Assembly is anticipated as early as next week and with 33 Majority Senators on the bill in the Senate, there are enough sponsors to pass it even if all other Senators were to vote in opposition. That means that Timothy’s Law has enough sponsors in the Senate to pass today! Therefore, with these latest developments comes a renewed sense of optimism that Timothy’s Law will in fact become law this year. However, to make that a reality, we need your help!

Please contact your Senator by phone, mail, or e-mail at http://www.mhanys.org/policy/advtlc.php,
asking them to urge Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno
to bring Timothy’s Law to the floor for a vote.
