Plans Set for 8th Annual CMHP Training Meeting

By Jessica Peterson

Excitement is building for the 2002 CMHP Training Meeting, set for April 29th-30th at the Best Western Sovereign Hotel in Albany, NY. Teams from all around the state will have the opportunity to share their work and knowledge with others, discuss their strategic plans, as well as learn from leaders in the mental health and business communities.
We are pleased to announce that this year's keynote speaker will be Dr. Daniel Fisher. As a person who has recovered from schizophrenia, Dr. Fisher is one of the few psychiatrists in the country who openly discusses his own experiences and recovery from mental illness. He seeks to dispel the myth that people do not recover from mental illness, and serves as a role model for others struggling to recover.

Dr. Fisher received his B.A. from Princeton, his Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin, and the M.D. from George Washington University, and is a board-certified psychiatrist who completed his residency at Harvard Medical School. He is the author of numerous articles in professional journals, as well as chapters in many books. He has also been featured on radio and television programs, including CNN Special Report.

Dr. Fisher is currently Co-Director of the National Empowerment Center, and a practicing psychiatrist at Eastern Middlesex Outpatient Center/ Riverdale, Massachusetts.

We are also excited to have Ron Kermani as our workshop leader in public speaking and marketing. In his position as vice president of public affairs at the New York State Higher Education Services Corp., Mr. Kermani is responsible for the agency's media and public relations campaigns and oversees more than three dozen publications. He has won numerous state and national journalism awards for his work, and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in 1995. He has also won more than two dozen national awards for outstanding writing, public relations, and advertising campaigns.

This year's meeting is guaranteed to be interesting and motivational. We look forward to seeing all CMHP team members there!
