Community Connections, Spring 2002

The primary goal of the Capital Region CMHP Team is to enter school systems in the Albany, Schenectady, Rensselaer, and Saratoga areas, to educate both students and teachers about mental health issues, as well as to dispel some of the stigma surrounding this issue. Although the team is just getting started, they have already reached students in the classroom.
Another goal of this team is to develop an Anti-Discrimination Campaign, to create awareness about images that promote stigma. They have been active in this goal, writing letters to media outlets about stigmatizing images in their advertisements and publications. The team has also been actively participating in the development of Children's Mental Health Week tool kits.
The team has big plans for the upcoming year, including reaching out to more schools, and running a poster contest for area students.
