Community Connections, Spring 2002

Building A Bridge To The Community

Our County has been fortunate to participate in the MHANYS Community Mental Health Promotion Project for the past several years with great success! Our annual poster contest, "What Every Child Needs for Good Mental Health" has helped us reach out to students, parents, educators, and the community.

We have also formed some unexpected partnerships, boosting the success of our project and the morale of our team. The biggest, a local art gallery, after seeing the posters at our annual recognition breakfast, requested that they be loaned to the gallery for display over the summer. What a thrill to have the arts community partner with us to raise awareness and combat stigma. That was two years ago and has now become an annual tradition.

We are currently sponsoring our year-three contest where we will seek partnerships with local businesses to keep the posters on display in the community throughout the year. With the support of our local Chambers of Commerce we anticipate the formation of new partnerships and possibly a few more surprises!

We appreciate the support we receive from MHANYS to make this important part of our organization possible. We would also like to acknowledge the other CMHP Teams around the state for sharing their ideas with us and keeping us energized and inspired. Hope to see you all at the conference in April!
