GUIDELINES
FOR DEVELOPING A CMHP TEAM'S LOCAL STRATEGIC
PLAN
Part
I - Evaluating Your Community
In
developing your CMHP team's Local Strategic
Plan, awareness of each of the identified
constituencies is essential to your consideration
of the following:
Identify
Priorities
- Ask
each team member to highlight the five
most pressing mental health issues your
community faces.
- Ask
each team member to identify the impact
these five issues have on their constituency.
- Ask
each team member to note on a piece
of paper the three issues they would
be most interested in addressing in
your community.
- Ask
the team leader to read all five responses
and tally the highest to lowest score
for each issue.
- Select
up to three of the top priority items
to address as part of your Local Strategic
Plan.
Identify
the Team's Community Support Network
- Ask
each team member to identify peer and
professional support networks with which
collaboration is feasible.
- Ask
each team member to identify a community
group or network, which has an interest
or stake in addressing the selected
issues, yet may or may not be directly
affiliated with the team member.
Identify
Existing and Potential Community Partners
- Identify
the community and civic leaders whom
you would like to assist in influencing
change to effectively address the issues
targeted.
- Identify
the linkages and support networks connected
directly or indirectly with the community
and civic leaders.
- Identify
those community and civic leaders who
are generally supportive of system's
change.
Identify
Barriers
- Ask
each team member to identify two specific
barriers faced by their constituency
for each issue to be addressed.
- Select
from the list of barriers those to be
addressed by the team.
Envision
Solutions
- Make
a wish list of possible goals associated
with each issue to be addressed.
- What
are the benefits gained for each constituency?
- What
are the benefits for your community
as a whole?
- Identify
those goals that are attainable.
- Select
from your list of attainable goals,
those which the team would like to include
in their local strategic plan.
