MISSION STATEMENT: MHANYS is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization with 30 local affiliate MHAs serving 52 counties in New York State. MHANYS and the affiliate network work to promote mental health and recovery, encourage empowerment in mental health service recipients, eliminate discrimination, raise public awareness with education, and advocate for equality and opportunity for all.

MHANYS accomplishes these tasks through the following programs: Consumer and Business Outreach Program (CBOP), Community Mental Health Promotion (CMHP), Mental Health Information Center (MHIC), Parents with Psychiatric Disabilities (PWPD) Project, and Public Policy & Advocacy.

MHANYS works to ensure available and accessible mental health services for all New Yorkers.

FYI! Training in the Treatment of Children with Disruptive Behavior Disorders
This fall, NYS OMH’s Evidence Based Treatment Dissemination Center will be offering training in the treatment of disruptive behavior disorders. The program includes three full days of training with national experts in both child treatment and parent education in behavior management. The training is followed by one year of biweekly clinical consultation calls to help clinicians master the new treatment model.

There is no doubt we are facing tough economic times in New York and across the country. Besides the financial cost of tough times, there is also a significant emotional cost. According to several studies, the number of individuals who seek mental health services increases dramatically during difficult times. Rates of suicide also increase as well.
