Binghamton police officers get training on dealing with persons with mental illness

Last year,  Bob Corliss of MHANYS worked with the MHA of the Southern Tier to set up a conference on fostering better collaboration between mental health agencies and criminal justice agencies.  One of  the programs the conference focused on was the Emotionally Disturbed Response Team (EDPRT) in the Rochester Police Department.  The main speaker on this topic was Eric Weaver, the former commanding officer of the Rochester PD, now retired, who currently  assists other departments to establish EDP Response teams.

As a direct outcome of the conference,  Mr. Weaver was asked to return to Binghamton to work with  the police department and local mental health agencies. including the MHA of the Southern Tier,  in setting up an EDPRT training program.
